FPA Future-proofing Assessment: Resilient and flexible assessment solutions for Education and the Workplace

Imagine watching a student complete an assessment on their device. Behind the scenes, their AI assistant reads the multiple-choice questions, identifies the correct answers, and subtly feeds them the responses. This isn't science fiction—we'll show you exactly how it's done, then work together to fix it. Our interactive session takes participants on a journey through three connected narratives: The End of Multiple Choice? We begin with a provocative demonstration: showing exactly how today's AI tools can see, interpret, and correctly answer traditional MCQ assessments with alarming accuracy. Participants will witness firsthand how easily conventional assessment items can be compromised.

The narrative becomes clear: traditional item types that have served us for decades may no longer be fit for purpose in an AI-powered world. Rethinking Assessment Logic Working in collaborative groups, participants will deconstruct the assessment process and rebuild it for an AI-integrated future.

We'll explore questions like: - What if we designed assessments with the assumption that AI tools will be present? - How might we assess competencies that remain uniquely human? - What happens when we view AI as a tool within assessment rather than as a threat to it? Through guided exercises starting with pen and paper ideation and progressing to collaborative digital spaces, participants will sketch new assessment frameworks that transcend traditional formats whilst maintaining assessment integrity. From Concept to Reality The final chapter of our narrative transforms ideas into tangible prototypes.

Participants will use AI-based no-code generation tools to create working models of their reimagined assessment experiences. The beauty of this approach is that it requires no coding knowledge—just creativity and vision that AI tools can help bring to life. Assessment professional

s who can articulate what a test should do but lack the technical skills to build it will discover how today's tools can bridge that gap. Facilitators will guide participants through the process of developing interactive prototypes that can:

- Challenge AI in ways current assessments cannot

- Assess deeper understanding and application

- Create assessment experiences that are engaging and authentic By the end of our session, participants won't just leave with theories—they'll walk away with working prototypes of next-generation assessment items they've created themselves. These tangible examples will serve as conversation starters within their organisations and practical models that can be further refined. This session is designed for assessment professionals who recognise the need for change but might feel limited by technical constraints.
